One of the relics of the Saint Germain’s Jazz Age and a long-time left-bank budget option, Hotel Lenox remains a great-value choice with rooms from 143 Euros (a rarity in this area). Ideally located at the edge of lively Saint Germain des Près and the Carré Rive Gauche, the Hotel was renovated during the summer of 2009. Dingy rooms have become Boutique-standard smart. New beds with crisp white bedding contrast with jewel-toned paintwork, brocade curtains, plush carpeting and velvet armchairs. Bathrooms are sleek, white and modern with Roger & Gallet and L’Occitane toiletries. There are new flat-screen TVs and free WIFI throughout the hotel). One thing they couldn’t change was the location. Luckily the hotel is right on the corner of the rue de l’Université with its art galleries and publishing houses, and the charming, secret rue de Pre aux Clercs which hides some boutiques worth searching for including Les Prairies de Paris and Laurence Tavernier. Another thing the hotel has happily preserved is the original art deco styling of the reception room and bar: all antique leather club chairs and inlaid veneer panels. Then there’s the Room Service cocktail menu, another relic of a more decadent age; order up your Mojito or Manhattan (from 11 Euros), sit back and enjoy your view over Saint Germain.

Guaranteed you will quickly adopt Hotel Lenox as your Parisien pied à terre.
